She's Got It.

So, it all starts with my sister seeing an ad in a newspaper advertising for women who are in business to apply for the North East Women in Business Award.
"So why don't you apply " she says.
"Because it will be women heading up big business's " I say, "Not sole traders like myself".
"You should try, you just never know where it might lead" she says.
So I did go away and think about it and ended up sending in an application. Then a month or so later I get a phone call from the company who organise the event ,(called "She's Got It"), saying ,out of 72 applications for the Creative Business award ,myself and two other candidates had been shortlisted.
I couldn't believe it. I thought it was a joke at first but when she started talking about interviews and being videoed it started to sink in. Wow, how cool was that, getting shortlisted, when I think about it it still makes me smile.

Then the day came for the interview. A wonderful woman called Nickie Gott turned up at my studio to do the interview. It is her company that organises the awards. I wasn't sure what to expect but ended up spending an hour just talking. She asked a few questions about the business and we talked about women in business and supporting each other. It was great meeting her and I feel we really got to know a good bit about each other. She was so positive , motivational and inspirational. She left me feeling that if nothing else comes of this I started on this path feeling a bit reluctant but after meeting her I was really starting to enjoy it.

So tomorrow is the video day. Where a camera crew come down and do an hours videoing at the studio. Then after that is the awards presentation evening on the 13th November. All the videos of the shortlisted candidates are played on the night and you don't know until  that evening whether you have won or not, bit like the oscars!

It would be the icing on the cake to win but I really feel, after meeting Nickie, doing the video and then going to this very grand do of the presentation evening on the 13th it will be  a journey I am really glad I didn't miss. And as I always have to keep reminding myself, stay open to what life's opportunities bring you because life really is there to support you.
